Ramban District is a newly formed district of the state of Jammu and Kashmir of India.

Administration

Ramban district consists of 4 blocks: Ramban, Banihal, Gool and Ramsoo and two tehsils- Ramban & Banihal.Located along river 'Chenab' also known as 'Chanderbhaga' on National Highway-1A.[1] Each block consists of a number of panchayats.

Politics

Ramban District has 2 assembly constituencies: Banihal and Ramban.[2]

Demographics

According to the 2011 census Ramban district has a population of 283,313 ,[3] roughly equal to the nation of Barbados.[4] This gives it a ranking of 573rd in India (out of a total of 640).[3] The district has a population density of 213 inhabitants per square kilometre (550 /sq mi) .[3] Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 31.81 %.[3] Ramban has a sex ratio of 901 females for every 1000 males,[3] and a literacy rate of 56.9 %.[3]
